Veggie Heaven

Check out all the awesome veggies we got from our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) today.  And this is just a week’s worth – we will get more every week, all summer! We have joined up with Community Homestead in Osceola, WI for the past three summers and we LOVE being a party of a CSA.   It’s such a great deal – local, organic, fresh produce, picked the day before delivery, and delivered to the Cities about 15 minutes from where we live for pickup.  We paid $535 for a family-sized box, get veggies for about an 18-20 week season (June – sometime in October, depending on how long things keep growing on the farm), and figure it averages out to about $30 a week at the most.  Since we split the box with my sister, that’s...

Independence Day Fun

I love holidays, because they usually mean a day of vacation for Jason, which translates to a day of vacation (or vacation from ordinary life, at least) for me too!  We wanted to do something fun on the 4th so we took the girls to Como Zoo for their first time. They loved looking at all the animals (although they did NOT love sitting in their stroller for long), and got especially close up views of the lions and the monkeys and the seals. Taking the two of them anywhere equals a wild and crazy time for mom and dad still, so we came home pretty exhausted, but it was worth it! As we were leaving, we decided to try for a ride on the carousel, which was fun to the girls while we were standing in line, but apparently really scary to Aubrey once we got on and she...

A Week at the Lake

Just about a week ago we returned from our annual “week at Cragun’s” with the Halse’s. It was a fantastic vacation, it was one of those trips were we had so much fun and reached such an ideal state of relaxation that I’m still having difficulty snapping out it. We all stayed in a 3BR cabin right on the beach and I mean right on the beach. The week was filled with many camp fires (tasty treats & beverages included), swimming, playing on the beach and a little late night music trivia for Richard and I. We also managed to fit in some golf, a horse drawn carriage ride and pontoon tour of Gull Lake and a spa treatment. True to just about all trips away from home, the girls had some trouble sleeping through the night which caused some a...

Little Drummer Boy

How the world did this kid learn to do this. At least he’s having fun…I’m buying a drum set for the girls.

MS Bike 150…again!

Once again this summer I’ll be participating in a Bike MS  ride. This year I’ll be doing one of the Iowa Rides (Cruise the Cornfields 2010 – yeah I know insert Iowa joke here) on August 28th & 29th. The ride is an attempt to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis as well as to raise money for the North Central States Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The money raised will go to MS research as well as to helping thousands of people in Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Minnesota living with MS. As it stands today my team consists of myself and my good friend Frank. We’ll be riding a total of 150 miles over two days starting from Ankeny. The route will be from Ankeny to Marshalltown and back.  If you’d like...

Happy 2nd Birthday Aubrey!

It’s finally here – the birthday after which we no longer measure Aubrey’s age in months. Happy 2nd Birthday Aubrey! To celebrate we had a family party this past weekend (May 8th). It was great that so many people in our family made it considering they traveled from all over. My Dad and Stepmom were here from Council Bluffs, Rebecca’s Dad came up from Madison and Rebecca’s Mom came from Sedona, Arizona (long distance winner). Last year at Ella’s first birthday party Aubrey was glued to Papa Rick as he played the keyboard for an impromptu sing-along. We made sure we incorporated the sing-along into this party as well. If you happen to check out the pictures of the party you’ll see that there was a musical theme this year....
