Our first day without Rebecca and Aubrey…a tornado
With the abundance of severe weather in the midwest it seems that a lot of people know what it’s like to sit through a tornado. It can be a vastly different experience depending on what shelter you have and the intensity of the tornado. Before I describe Ella and my experience last Sunday, I just want to offer my sincerest sympathies and prayers to those who’ve experience loss as part of the tornadoes in Joplin, MO. If you so desire you can give to the American Red Cross to help out with the recovery. You can also still help out those in North Minneapolis (many of whom still need basic necessities) through Urban Homeworks (an organization that intimately knows the needs of North Minneapolis). After dropping off Rebecca and Aubrey at the airport...
MS 150 Bike Ride – Day 2
Embarrassing, I’m finally getting around to telling you about day 2 of my bike ride that took place over two months ago? Seriously that’s really sad, but if anyone still cares…here’s what happened. First let me point you to this picture of Frank and I at the finish line of day 1. Those are two guys that look like they’ve just accomplished something big…and we did…except neither one of us started day 2 of the ride. It turns out that Frank, who I’ll affectionately call “Speed Demon” for the duration of this post, was so fast on his new bike that he threw his back out. He was pretty sore when we sat down post ride in front of the Cowboy’s preseason game. For the record we also devoured a fantastic...
MS 150 Bike Ride – Day 1
It’s already been two weeks since the bike ride, time flies. So much has happened in the last two weeks so expect a flood of posts in the next few weeks. Focus Jason…the bike ride… First off let me say it was awesome hanging out with Dave and Arkay and a big thank you to them for letting Frank and I stay with them. Friday night we ate out at the Okiboji Grill in Ankeny. Since I could use the upcoming ride as an excuse to eat obscene amounts of food I elected for the Okiboji Cheeseburger Melt with an extra patty. Apparently no one orders the extra hamburger patty because our server looked at me like I was nuts. I had to point out to him on the menu that I could in fact order an extra patty and it was $2.00 extra…delicious. Not only did The...
I’m off to MS Bike 150
In a couple of hours I’ll be packed up and off to visit our good friends Dave and Arkay in Ankeny. Frank and I will be spending the night with them tonight before we start the MS Bike 150 early Saturday morning. It will be great to having an extended visit with Dave and Arkay since I usually only see them about once year for a few hours over New Years Eve. Looking back I’ve done a pretty bad job of keeping you posted on how my training has gone. Overall I think it went better than last year, I fit more long rides in any way. I still had a tough getting out during the week though (as in it never happened). Knowing me I’ll probably never feel completely prepared but I learned some lessons from last year that will get me through this year. This year...
A Week at the Lake
Just about a week ago we returned from our annual “week at Cragun’s” with the Halse’s. It was a fantastic vacation, it was one of those trips were we had so much fun and reached such an ideal state of relaxation that I’m still having difficulty snapping out it. We all stayed in a 3BR cabin right on the beach and I mean right on the beach. The week was filled with many camp fires (tasty treats & beverages included), swimming, playing on the beach and a little late night music trivia for Richard and I. We also managed to fit in some golf, a horse drawn carriage ride and pontoon tour of Gull Lake and a spa treatment. True to just about all trips away from home, the girls had some trouble sleeping through the night which caused some a...
